How do I get a library card?

One library card is used for all the libraries in Kent,New Castle, and Sussex Counties.  Library cards are free to Delaware residents or non resident property owners (must be able to show a current property tax receipt).  Visit any library with a valid photo ID and fill out the form.  Your card will be issued by the library staff. If you have lost your library card, there is a replacement fee of $2.    Visitor cards are available for those persons who do not have a Delaware issued id.  The visitor card is valid for one month.  The user may  check out items a limited number of items with an visitor card.  The current fee for an visitor card is $10.

What is my pin number?

Your pin number is usually a 4 digit number assigned to or chosen by you when you received your library card.  Your pin number is used for placing a hold, accessing the databases on the lib.de.us site, and logging on to the internet.  It is not printed on your library card although some libraries do issue a small piece of paper with your pin written on it.

Due to the security issues, a pin number can not be given to you over the phone. If you have an email address in your library record, the pin can be sent to that email address.  But if your email address is no longer valid or there is no email address in your library record,  you would need to visit any public library in Kent or Sussex County and present a valid photo id and then staff can look up your pin number for you.
